With representation from all of the regions developers and some from Yorkshire, the latest Polygon event was insightful, heated and for once quite highbrow. The panellists and audience tore into a range of topics including User Generated Content, representing women in games, controversy for the sake of controversy, the need for violence in games, digital downloads, and how to improve the media's view of the industry. In our new home at Friar Gate Studios there were well over 75 developers and future developers, even though FRD, Rare, and Eurocom are all on crunch.

The panel featured Rob Yescombe (Free Radical Design) who is the first panellist to have been able to talk over Dan as well as outline why he thinks we should have more intelligent content in our games, Matt Sansam (Covert Media) who outlined his plans for Covert, the future of UGC, and world domination - all in 20 seconds flat, a back to form Iain Simons, and Dan Marchant, who seems to have become a mentor to about 30 Student Developers from Derby University.

The next event will be in April, so drop us a line at polygons@pixel-lab.co.uk if you want to be added to the polygons mailing list.

Polygons #5

Never Mind the Polygons #5 will take place in just under three weeks time, at 6.30p.m. on Tuesday the 20th of February. More beered up, games industry panel ranting for your delight, open to everyone involved with the games industry.

Due to the popularity of the last few events, we've moved to a swankier venue at Friar Gate Studios, a little closer to the centre of Derby than the Courtyard Pub (Just up the road, in fact: Google map). A free bar has been kindly sponsored by Strawdog Studios.

Polygons #5 will feature Rob Yescombe (Screenwriter, Free Radical Design) and Matt Sansam (Ex-Rebellion Derby and now Founder, Covert Media), along with our two regulars Dan Marchant (Consultant and EM Media) and Iain Simons (Writer and Creative Director, GameCity Festival).

Doors open at the usual time of 6.30, with the event starting proper at 7.00 and wrapping up around 8.30, with plenty of time for drinks and networking after.

This event is part of the Creative Industries Network family.
